Code of conduct

Mouhit is an artist-residence based in Tunis. The residence supports creative practitioners at all levels of their career by offering a convivial environment for reflection, artistic experimentation, and self-development.

The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to provide guidelines for appropriate behavior essential to the Mouhit community. We want to ensure and maintain a positive, comfortable, safe and inclusive environment. Violations of the standards stated in the code of conduct can result in the removal from the space or interruption of residency.

The Code of Conduct is meant to be educational and corrective, not disciplinary and punitive.

Scope

The code of conduct is applicable to the following:

  • Staff members, advisors and mentors
  • Artists in residence 
  • Any cultural practitioner renting or taking over Mouhit’s Space for their event/exhibition/workshop ect.
  • Contractors, freelancers and any other person under the responsibility of Mouhit
  • Guests and visitors

Non-Discriminatory Policy

Mouhit does not discriminate against individuals on the basis of nationality and origins, color, age, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, religion and belief, marital status, disability.

The following definitions apply in this Code of Conduct:

Undesirable behavior: conduct, action or omission of an action that has physical, psychological or social consequences which are perceived as negative. This includes in any case sexual intimidation, discrimination, aggression, violence and bullying in the workplace, studio or any events hosted in Mouhit Space;

Intimidation: any form of verbal, non-verbal or physical behaviour with the purpose or effect of compromising the dignity of a person, adversely affecting work performance or creating an unsafe work/studio situation;

Sexual harassment: any form of verbal, non-verbal or physical behaviour with a sexual connotation with the purpose or effect of compromising the dignity of a person, adversely affecting work or study performance or creating an unsafe work situation;

Discrimination: without justification, expressing insults or violent action against participants, advisors or staff because of their religion, belief, political affiliation, race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, marital status, age, disability or justification, chronic illness or on any other ground;

Aggression and violence: psychologically, physically or verbally harassing, threatening or attacking a participant, mentor or staff member;

Bullying: intimidating behavior of a structural nature of one or more advisors or staff members against one or more participants, advisors or staff.

Guidelines of what constitutes inappropriate behavior 

An inclusive positive environment is free of inappropriate behavior, including but not limited to:

  • Verbal comments that reinforce oppression related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, age or religion (or lack thereof);
  • Sexual images or inappropriate nudity in public spaces (including presentation materials);
  • Verbal threats, demands or intimidations;
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following;
  • Harassing photography or recording;
  • Sustained disruption of discussions, whether in person or virtual;
  • Unwelcome sexual attention;
  • Imitating or making fun of accents or grammatical errors, or giving unsolicited grammar corrections (but clarifying questions are fine);
  • Enlisting the help of others, whether in person or online, in order to target a member of the community; 
  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior; 
  • Any form of physical violence and intimidation

Alcohol & Drugs

Many of us enjoy an alcoholic drink at social events. However, over-consumption and inebriation can be detrimental to everyone. Any community member whose conduct is deemed to be inconsistent with the standards outlined in this Code of Conduct will be asked to modify their behavior or leave the event immediately. Mouhit has a policy of zero-tolerance of the use of illegal drugs or other banned substances at all times.

Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in immediate removal from the residency, event, and participating organizations may have other internal measures they may implement depending on the individuals involved and the nature of the misconduct.
