Open Call - Mouhit International Artist Residency 2026
Mouhit is excited to launch the second edition of its International Artist Residency Program, designed to support artists from around the world in their creative development while encouraging cross-cultural exchange with the Tunisian art scene. This program offers a unique opportunity for residents to immerse themselves in a dynamic environment that encourages experimentation, collaboration, and critical reflection.
Mouhit is an artist residency in Tunis that welcomes creative people at all stages of their careers. It provides a friendly space for artists to reflect, experiment, and grow.
The residencies are self-organized which gives artists the freedom to plan and manage their residency on their own terms. The Mouhit team is available to provide support adapted to the needs of each resident - networking, mentoring, logistics, communication. We believe in sharing and making art accessible, encouraging artists to engage with the public through open studios, events, and activities.
The Space
Mouhit is a three-story residence with a large outdoor garden.
The first floor includes a shared workspace/common room, a kitchen, and a restroom.
The second floor houses 2 private studios that double as accommodation and personal workspaces, along with a shared bathroom.
A soundroom is available upon request with technical support.
The outdoor garden provides ample space for relaxation, work, or hosting events, including exhibitions, workshops, and performances. Designed as a modular, multifunctional environment, the space can be adapted to suit diverse artistic needs using available work tables and equipment.
The Neighborhood
Located in Menzah 1, a quiet residential area close to the heart of Tunis, Mouhit offers both tranquility and convenience. The neighborhood features supermarkets, shops, cafes, and restaurants, all within walking distance. The city center is a 20-minutes walk away, making it easy for artists to access the vibrant cultural life of Tunis while enjoying the calm of their surroundings.
About the program
During this residency, international artists may share the space with other residents, providing opportunities for dialogue and collaboration. While each artist will focus on their own practice, they are encouraged to engage with one another and with the local scene, creating potential for new ideas and synergies.
At the end of the residency, artists are encouraged to share their work with the public through open studios, an exhibition, a performance, a talk, a workshop or any other format of their choice.
Eligibility Criteria:
We welcome applications from artists working across any medium and practices.
Priority will be given to applicants who are from or currently living in the Global Majority.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
If you require a visa to participate, please inform us. While we are happy to provide invitation letters to support your visa application, please note that we do not have the budget to cover visa-related costs.
What we’re looking for
- Artistic curiosity and openness - We’re interested in artists who are curious about their practice, open to new ideas, and willing to take some risks or explore unfamiliar directions.
- A connection to Tunisia - The work should have some connection to Tunisia, whether through its people, culture, history, society, places, or everyday life.
- Experimentation - We’re interested in people who like to try things out, play with ideas, question familiar ways of working, and explore what their medium or practice can do.
- Critical thinking - We value artists who are curious about the ideas behind their work and willing to question, reflect, and look at things from different perspectives. This can include engaging with your surroundings through artistic practice, curation, writing, directing, or other forms of creative work.
What is expected from the residents:
- Host one community-oriented workshop, experience or event.
- Create a minimum of one collaborative post with Mouhit on instagram about your residency .
Residency Package
- Access to a private bedroom, shared living spaces (kitchen, bathroom, living room, garden). Access to our available tools and equipment. Internet.
- Connection to our local and international network of artists, curators, collectors and creative practitioners.
- Coordination, communication and logistics support.
- Mentoring support can be available depending on the needs.
- A budget up to 1200 USD (3600TND) in total for international transportation, production and living expenses. The distribution of this budget will depend on the needs of the selected resident.
