SYNESTHETIC ACTS
End of residency show by Becem Sdiri and Jack Montaly. From July 22 - August 7 at Mouhit Art Space.
For six months, Becem Sdiri and Jack Montaly hung out at Mouhit Art Space, observing, thinking about, and studying everything around them—both inside and outside spaces.
“WE WANT TO EXPLORE HOW THESE PERCEIVED STRUCTURES AND SPACES CAN CONVEY MEANINGS THROUGH THEIR PLACEMENTS IN RELATION TO OTHER STRUCTURES AND SPACE ITSELF.”
“We consider that these elements contain a function by projecting a belief.”
“Through our immersive study, we began developing and demonstrating new ways of linking our reality to our collective imaginary and vice versa - for example by imaging sounds which represent a certain shape or arrangement. This process stimulated a reconstruction of our understanding of everyday experiences.”
“On our journey, we decided to work with everyday materials like wood, metal, and gypsum. We teamed up with local craftsmen who taught us new skills and how to use different tools.”
“OUR aim is to create a
FORM OF LANGUAGE THROUGH WHICH WE EXPLORE OUR REALITY.
THEN OPEN IT UP TO PEOPLE FOR THEM TO SHARE THEIR OWN INTERPRETATION.”
Our show is an echo of the realms we explore.
